PRIMA retinal implant approved for use in Europe for geographic atrophy
The PRIMA retinal implant has been approved for use in Europe. It restores functional central vision in people with geographic atrophy, improving vision to roughly 20/160, which is not full restoration. The approval is based on a small study.
Why it matters
This provides a treatment option for a form of age-related macular degeneration that currently has no cure.
