Eco-moorings in Studland Bay Nearly Heal Seagrass Anchor Scars
Eco-moorings in Studland Bay, Dorset, have led to the near-complete healing of anchor scars in seagrass meadows and an increase in seahorse numbers. The seagrass recovered over roughly five years, and the seahorse increase is reported qualitatively rather than as a specific count. These results are local to one bay and come from a single study.
Why it matters
Traditional boat anchors damage seagrass meadows, and this study shows that switching to eco-moorings can allow those habitats to recover.
