Tesco becomes first supermarket to offer paid safe leave for domestic abuse victims
Tesco, the UK's largest private-sector employer, is introducing up to three days of paid safe leave for victims of domestic abuse across its national workforce. The leave can be used flexibly to attend court, arrange emergency accommodation, or secure childcare, and the company has also trained managers to spot signs of domestic abuse. The policy applies only to Tesco's UK workforce, and the actual number of beneficiaries will be a subset of employees who experience domestic abuse.
Why it matters
Domestic abuse victims often risk losing income or employment to manage emergencies, and this policy provides paid time to handle those situations without financial penalty.
