Green turtles reclassified from endangered to least concern on IUCN Red List
The global conservation status of green turtles was reclassified from endangered to least concern on the IUCN Red List last year. This assessment covers the single species on a global scale. Recovery is uneven, and some regional populations remain endangered or declining.
Why it matters
Widespread species decline is an ongoing problem, and the global improvement of green turtle status provides evidence that population recovery is possible.
