Cornwall Council recycles 36,000 tonnes of food waste into electricity and fertiliser
Cornwall Council has recycled about 36,000 tonnes of food waste since starting a new service two years ago. The waste is processed at an anaerobic digester to generate electricity and fertiliser. This is a regional program. The data comes from the council and has not been independently audited.
Why it matters
This program shows a regional approach to diverting food waste from landfills, which reduces methane emissions and creates useful products.
